Three people are alleged to have lost their lives when a section of the Mile 12 market in the Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State was gutted by fire yesterday.
According to a Vanguard report, the cause of the blaze remains unknown while some suspect that the fire may have been started by an illegal petroleum business which the section is said to have been associated with.
Along with the loss of lives, 22 shops and well as 5 vehicles, 5 motorcycles and 2 trucks are said to have been destroyed in the inferno.
Mama Kudirat, a trader in the area, has revealed that she is not involved with the illegal petroleum business but does trade in kerosene from one of the shops in the market.
Eye witnesses on the scene confirmed that fire fighters battled to contain the blaze. The situation took an even more tragic turn when hoodlums from the area attacked fire fighters in an attempt to worsen the incident.
