Stress is inevitable, as far as you live in this part of the world, and you make contact with people and have a functioning body system. On daily basis, we might encounter people or situations that might make us feel highly stressed out, and risk our well being. Fortunately, there
are many things you can do to minimize and cope with stress
consciously monitoring our habits, thought, and behavior often go a
long way toward reducing feelings of stress and tension. Here are simple things you can do to
help keep your stress level under control.
*Figure out where the stress is coming from
You need to identify what you’re actually stressed about. Is it a
specific project at work, an upcoming exam, a dispute with your boss, a
heap of laundry, a fight with your family? Watch for the next instance in
which you find yourself becoming annoyed or angry at something trivial or
unimportant, then practice letting go - make a conscious choice not to
become angry or upset. Do not allow yourself to waste thought and energy
where it isn't deserved. You might not be able to determine what happens to you,but you can choose how you react.
*Breathe and
Consider what you can control—and work on that
There are so many things that stresses us yet we cannot control, like what
your boss does, how your in-laws or family members act, the sour state of the
economy. The worst thing for stress is trying to take control over
uncontrollable things. Because when you inevitably fail — since it’s beyond
your control — you only get more stressed out and feel helpless. So after you've thought through what’s stressing you out, identify the stress cause that
you can control, and determine the best ways to take action.
Breathe slowly and deeply. Before reacting to any stressful occurrence,
take a deep breaths and release them slowly. If you have a few minutes, try
out breathing exercises and meditation
* Slow Down:
Whenever you feel overwhelmed by stress, practice speaking more slowly than
usual. You'll find that you think more clearly and react more reasonably to
stressful situations. Stressed people tend to speak fast and breathlessly; by
slowing down your speech you'll also appear less anxious and more in control of
any situation.
*Complete a task and add something
you love to do
Choose one simple thing you have
been putting off (e.g.Doing your laundry, cleaning your home, returning a phone call or making a doctor's appointment)
and do it immediately. Just taking care of one nagging responsibility can be
energizing and can improve your attitude. It’s so much easier to manage pockets
of stress when the rest of your life is filled with activities you love. Even
if your job is stress central, you can find one hobby or two that enrich your
world. What are you passionate about? If you’re not sure, experiment with a
variety of activities to find something that’s especially meaningful and
fulfilling.
*Preserve good boundaries.
If you’re a people-pleaser like me,and saying no feels like you’re abandoning
someone, have become a terrible person or are throwing all civility out the
window. But of course that couldn't be further from the truth. Plus, those few
seconds of discomfort are well worth avoiding the stress of taking on an extra
activity or doing something that doesn't contribute value to your life.
One thing I've noticed about productive, happy people is that they’re very
protective of their time and having their boundaries crossed.
Also avoid staying hungry or dehydrated. Take a walk and get some fresh air
either alone or with a friend but don’t talk about work.
Do a quick posture check to improve your posture. Bad posture can lead to muscle tension, pain, and increased
stress.
At the end of every day, give yourself a treat. Anything you can afford but
feels good, even if it’s a good warm bath.
