All registered political parties in Zamfara State have signed a peace pact at the state police headquarters Gusau, the state capital.
The event was attended by the state APC gubernatorial candidate, incumbent Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar and the PDP gubernatorial candidate Mamuda Aliyu Shinkafi.
The exercise was observed in the presence of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (zone 10), Bala Hassan, the state Commissioner of Police, Olufemi David and all heads of security agencies in the state.
While addressing the gathering of politicians, the AIG zone 10 disclosed that the police has the responsibly of enforcing law and order and that the task should be considered as a collective responsibility.
Hassan noted that politicians were integral part of the most important aspects in the maintenance of peace during election processes as they have some measure of control over their teeming supporters.
He said the nation is passing through a very crucial time that demand concerted actions and prayers for the country to survive the impending political challenges threatening the socio-economic survival of the country.
All the political parties’ representatives have in their submission, unanimously agreed to observe and comply with all the peace agreements as contained in the pact document aimed at facilitating peaceful electoral activities and perfect understanding between the parties before, during and after general elections as well.
